Reviews from Google1.02 months agoI felt extremely disrespectful hearing the security person outside telling one of the bartenders “you know these people” when it was just myself in line. As a person of color that ain’t cool to say that comes off as racial stereotype especially when I hear him using him or her to the white folk and also if you know someone that work there is totally cool for you to come in with sweat pants. If you’re going to have a dress code then have a sign outside saying so and enforce it to everyone.

1.03 months agoI find it extremely unprofessional that a bar back came up to us in line wearing a Whiskey Jack’s sweatshirt and claimed there is a dress code of no sweatpants. He was very adamant that we would not be let in wearing sweatpants and told us to go home and change. He claimed he was a bouncer and would not let us in if we wearing sweatpants. When I got to the door we found no issue getting in with sweatpants on, and when we asked about it, we were like told there is no dress code. This was reinforced when we went inside and saw numerous individuals with sweatpants on including some employees. The interesting part however was this individual who claimed they were a “bouncer” was not at the door, but was in fact behind the bar and grabbing trash around the premises, so we assume they actually a bar back. Our group does not understand why this individual thought it was okay that as a bar back to enforce their own policy that is clearly not a policy of the establishment, but we found it extremely unprofessional and will let everyone we know of this encounter to warn them for the future. No one should be dress coded at a college bar, especially by an individual who has no merit to tell customers what to do and relay a fake policy, and blame the owner so the bar back can keep who they don’t want in the bar out. EDIT AFTER RESPONSE FROM OWNER: Well if you do have a dress code, it feels like you are picking and choosing who has to and who doesn't have to follow it. Why were multiple employees wearing grey sweatpants and why were multiple individuals inside the bar wearing grey sweatpants? If you "absolutely have a dress code", then make sure it's followed by everyone involved including your own staff. Make it a known thing as well. You are on a college campus with many students who go out in what they please with no issues from other establishments. You making it a policy that you randomly call out to who you see fit makes it seem targeted which is the consensus from the othe
1.03 months agoVery disappointing experience at Whiskey Jacks Saloon in Madison. As a customer, I felt the environment was uncomfortable and unwelcoming, and the owner came across as rude, aggressive, and only focused on money rather than treating people with respect. What was most concerning was hearing multiple troubling stories about how employees and certain customers were allegedly treated. Combined with what I personally witnessed, it created an atmosphere that felt discriminatory and honestly racist at times. Whether intentional or not, the behavior and attitude on display left a very bad impression. I don’t know the owner personally outside of this experience, but based on how people were treated, I would not recommend supporting this establishment. Madison has plenty of places that make everyone feel welcome — this did not feel like one of them.
1.03 months agoWalk on a sticky floor all night, check out another bar, get denied reentry for wearing the same clothes as earlier. Insane minimum for credit card use, bring cash. I'm definitely never going back, it's worth paying more for drinks somewhere else after waiting half hour for a drink
