Every time we’re in Madison we make sure to come by the Weary Traveler for a meal. It is nostalgic for us, but the food and drinks never miss the mark. The servers are so nice and the vibe is impeccable. Add it to your list, you won’t be disappointed!

Great place. Very busy, but the staff was friendly, polite and attentive. They are undergoing some menu changes, so we had to make some last minute decisions. But our food was excellent, and the drinks were well made. Cozy and roomy at the same time. A lot of people but it didn't feel cramped. Only challenge is parking, so plan accordingly.

The server was borderline frantic, that's how the meal started. The place is beautiful, the music is good, the menu is interesting. Went for vegan food and ordered the vegan ruben. It was absolutely delicious. It came with a purple potato salad that needed salt and pepper so badly - it was delicious otherwise and visual appealing. The place also came with a side of salad. I was not pleased that one of our orders came before the other (10 minutes apart). I was frustrated with the server telling me to just share my partners plate till mine got there - extremely unprofessional. I got my food to go and we left. I'll probably return because the food was soo good but I hope I have a different server.

Had a long travel day getting to Madison, so where else could I have possibly gone for a great comfort food dinner? Charming bartender helped me overcome menu paralysis; I could have ordered everything. Ended up with the Ruben, garlic fries, and a wee lil salad that I will dream of for many moons to come. The hardest part about leaving WI will be leaving these garlic fries behind. 😩💖 Go for a chill, slow dinner when you’re needing something supremely tasty.

Out of the 4 places we ate at in Madison, this was our favorite and the only to knock it out of the ballpark! The atmosphere is cute. It’s like stepping into a somewhat modern-ish, but still cosy tavern straight out of a renaissance movie. We originally tried to go for dinner on Saturday night, but there was a pretty long wait which I also think speaks to the food. They don’t take RSVPs, so plan accordingly. Ordered the Hungarian Goulash, Biscuits & Gravy, and the Jeffrey. The goulash was really delicious. The meat and vegetables were cooked down, flavorful and super tender. It also came with brioche bread on the side, which paired well! The sausage gravy and the sausage that came from the biscuits were also really good. The Jeffrey was good, but it was just a sandwich so it didn’t wow us as much. The sides that came with the biscuits & gravy and the Jeffrey did surprise us though! Fries were really crispy and flavorful. The homemade fried chips were also delightful. Not from the area, so we were originally a little (or a lot) let down by the other restaurants we had tried out, but the Weary Traveler Freehouse definitely saved the trip in terms of food. We’re definitely coming back if we’re in the area!
