Reviews from Google5.02 months agoHad two entrees+extra noddles an app a soju bottle and a tea for 70 - included the 20% tip- excellent service- Would return if I lived in Madison.
5.04 months agoOverall, 4.3/5 but I'll round away up. Definitely, Hutong is worth the visit. A hole-in-the-wall feel Chinese restaurant that feels more like a speakeasy than a formal dining arrangement, Hutong brings ambience and down tempo flair to the bustling engagement of the downtown core. Service knowledge and flow and speed of dish preparation could definitely be improved. Either they no longer have the spicy beef noodle soup or the server was completely lost, but she has no idea what I was referring to when I mentioned the dish -- one of Hutongs most popular dishes. Garlic green beans were a bit. Dan Dan noodles were ok but a little plain/not saucy enough. Sesame balls were delicious also, albeit small. Overall, is recommend a visit. Just make sure to carve out a ton of time to find parking. Kinda tough did to location
5.0a year agoTucked away gem! If you are living or visiting Madison visit this place! Great food! I come here every time I am in town. Specials are highly suggested trust this chef! Small plates egg rolls and dumplings you want to have! Had the sweet sliced beef rice so good! Soups are so yummy!
5.0a year ago"Hutong" means an alleyway. This restaurant really isn't in an alleyway but the idea is to signify a small restaurant that you'd by happenstance. The outside is very nondescript but it is popping inside. Full tables with conversations in the air. The menu is small which is great. I find the giant Chinese menus to cause me paralysis by analysis. If you like spicy, get the DAN DAN noodles. The spicy beef noodle soup is also very good, and so is the garlic green beans. A glass of jasmine tea rounds out the meal. $60 with tips.
5.02 years agoA friend recommended this and we decided to try it spur of the moment - and what an excellent decision. Everyone was so kind and nice. The cocktails were delicious- a bit strong but that’s a good thing! We started with pot stickers which were surprisingly crispy and full of flavor. I had the Dan Dan Noodles which I was told were were spicy - which they were! But in a good way. By the bottom of the bowl I was craving the spice. My husband got the Braised Pork rice which was amazing as well. I really appreciate the kindness and service here. I cannot wait to return!
