We watched the Final for FIFA here.. it was the best bar with the best atmosphere. After the game we stayed to grab a bite to eat. We loved their wide selection of beers they offered. They we're all very flavorfull and refreshing. Their wings we're delicious, cooked perfectly and the sauces we're amazing. If we're in the madison area, we'll be heading back here for sure.

Really enjoyed our experience at The Great Dane. Very friendly waitstaff. Our group of three got right in around 7:30 on a Friday night. Loved that you could order their beers in various sizes! We opted for the liter steins! Cheese curds were fantastic and fresh... the chimichurri ranch dipping sauce was phenomenal. Our meals were excellent and well timed. Fun place to be and would definitely recommend to anyone. We hope to return someday!

We loved the dog-friendly patio here! It was the perfect place to bring our pups and enjoy a beautiful day. Our server, Mile, was excellent. He patiently answered all of our questions about the menu and drinks and even brought out a bowl of water for our dogs, which we really appreciated. The patio is located downstairs in the back and has a completely different atmosphere from the inside of the restaurant. We absolutely loved the cozy outdoor setting. While we enjoyed our cheese curds and beers, our dogs stayed entertained watching the birds around the patio. If you’re looking for a great spot to enjoy good food, drinks, and beautiful weather with your furry friend, this is definitely the place to go!

Literally so good. I got the Mac and cheese and it was the right amount of cheesy and creamy. Great size and I had to take some home. The breadcrumb on top makes it so much better with a good noodle consistency. Our waiter was so nice and the vibes here are awesome

The Great Dane is one of those brewpubs that has been good for long enough that it's become a kind of civic institution in Madison. The downtown location is in a historic building and has been around since the mid-1990s and the combination of genuinely made beer, solid pub food, and a welcoming atmosphere that works for almost any occasion has kept it packed consistently. There's a billiards room, a rooftop, and multiple bar areas and somehow the whole thing functions without feeling disjointed. The Crop Circle Wheat is the flagship and it's one of those easy, slightly citrusy wheats that goes down well in any season, but the rotating taps are worth exploring too and the seasonal stuff is often excellent. We got the burgers on this visit which came out with good char and quality cheese and held up all the way through. The Wisconsin brat was the other thing we ordered and it came properly snappy with a mustardy accompaniment and on a good roll, which is the standard you need to hit when you're in this state. The onion rings on the side were better than they needed to be, which is a thing I always appreciate. Madison has developed into a genuinely good food city but the Great Dane occupies a specific spot that nobody else quite fills. It's the place you bring visitors because it gives them the Wisconsin pub experience without any pretense and the food and beer are actually good enough to stand on their own. Easy to return to multiple times during a longer stay.
